Three alternatives to compare first
18+ only. This Replika review covers conversation with a fictional adult companion and the account decisions that come with it. All facts were checked on 2026-10-28.
This site has no affiliate arrangement with Replika, so every reference to it points to the official service at replika.com. Before you pick a tier, it is worth setting three other services beside it. Each one differs on a specific point.
Nomi publishes a free plan with no end date. It allows 50 messages per day with a 400-character input limit, and you do not need a card. Nomi's own site quotes paid Standard in US dollars: US$15.99 per month or US$99.99 per year, with up to 10 companions included. Its memory tools have names: Mind Maps, backstories and shared notes. Nomi states that it does not use end-to-end encryption. The official pages do not confirm a Dutch App Store price on 2026-10-28, so the dollar figures are the reference.
Character.AI promises unlimited free messages, though you may land in a waiting room when demand is high. Its App Store entry lists a Dutch interface. The Dutch store shows Character.AI+ entries at €9.99 and €99.99 and Lite entries at €2.99 and €5.99, with no durations printed. Age assurance runs through Persona. On 2026-10-12 the company announced a court-supervised Chapter 11 sale process, which matters if you are considering a long subscription.
Janitor AI's Dutch iOS listing prices Janitor+ at €14.99 per month or €99 per year. The app is rated 18+ and names in-app Age Assurance, but the listing shows only an English interface. It offers a catalogue of many characters rather than one persistent avatar. The Replika alternatives guide compares these formats in more detail.
What it looks like

One avatar, three paid layers and a store list that needs reading closely
Replika centres on a single 3D avatar that you set up yourself. Chatting and avatar customisation stay free. Replika's help centre says there is no paid trial, so the free version is the only way to try the format before paying.
Each paid tier builds on the one below. Pro adds relationship status, activities, image generation, voice messages and calls, and daily gems. Ultra keeps everything in Pro and adds improved conversations, self-reflection and the option to save messages to memory. Platinum adds video recognition, weekly allowances for Training Mode and Read Mind, and 10 realistic selfie videos.
A Dutch buyer should look at the price list first. On 2026-10-28 the Netherlands App Store showed seven separate entries, from a MONTHLY item at €8.99 to a Platinum item at €78.99 with no billing period printed. Annual ULTRA at €74.99 names both its tier and its term; the store also lists Annual Max Subscription at €75.99 (checked 2026-10-29).
Account control is the second thing to check. You can remove saved memories one by one, but clearing the whole chat history means deleting the account. Deleting the account does not stop billing on its own. You cancel through whichever platform took the original payment.
Scores by criterion
Provisional (5/8 criteria). Scores are computed from each app's published terms, pricing, policies and store listings on the dates shown. We have not yet run paid test accounts; when we do, experience criteria will be added and the cap on the total score removed. Affiliate links never change a score. A score marked Full data rests on all eight criteria. Provisional means five to seven criteria could be scored from published facts. Limited data means only three or four criteria could be scored; such totals are capped at 3.5 and should be read as a floor, not a verdict. Apps with fewer than three scorable criteria get no total. Totals are weighted means of the scored criteria only and move when missing facts get documented. Full methodology

Dates and scope
Page updated 2026-10-29. Prices, tier contents, cancellation steps and privacy terms were checked on 2026-10-28, and the Netherlands App Store entries are a snapshot from that day. Replika's privacy policy is dated 2026-05-27. The Italian Garante decision discussed below is dated 2025-04-10.
This page describes published features, store prices and account terms. It does not judge how the conversations feel in use. Store entries change, so the purchase sheet on your own device is the final word on what you are buying.
Dutch App Store entries and what each one tells you
Replika does not publish a single euro price per tier. A Dutch iPhone user sees a set of App Store in-app entries instead, checked 2026-10-28.
Two entries have a monthly label: MONTHLY at €8.99 and Monthly at €15.49. Three use annual wording: Annual at €64.99, YEARLY at €55.99 and a second Annual at €50.99. These labels confirm a billing period, but they do not say which tier is attached, and not every entry is necessarily offered to every account. Do not assume the lowest annual amount will show up on your own purchase screen.
Two entries are more specific. Annual ULTRA costs €74.99 and names both the tier and the term. Over twelve months that works out at roughly €6.25, but you pay it as one amount at the start of the year. Replika Platinum is listed at €78.99 with no duration. Treat it as neither a monthly nor a yearly price until the purchase screen states the period.
German prices do not carry over. The German store lists Annual ULTRA at €79.99 and one Annual item at €69.99, compared with €74.99 and €64.99 in the Netherlands.
App Store amounts in the Netherlands are consumer prices, so there is no reason to add the general 21% BTW rate on top. The purchase sheet shows the amount you will actually be charged. Web promotions can differ from store entries, so match the exact entry on your screen before comparing it with an offer elsewhere.
The published tier list mentions daily gems in Pro but gives no euro price per action. A realistic total of subscription plus extra spending therefore cannot be calculated. The total also depends on optional Gem purchases; the Dutch App Store lists packs at €0.99 and €6.99 (checked 2026-10-29).
Check payment routes just as carefully. Replika's help centre explains how to cancel a PayPal subscription, which shows that existing PayPal billing is supported. It does not confirm that Dutch users can pay with iDEAL, SEPA or a new PayPal checkout. Save the confirmation showing the tier name, period and renewal amount, since you will need it for any later billing question.
| Netherlands App Store label | Listed amount (checked 2026-10-28) | What the label establishes |
|---|---|---|
| MONTHLY | €8.99 | Monthly period; tier not named |
| Monthly | €15.49 | A separate monthly item; tier not named |
| Annual | €64.99 | Annual period; tier not named |
| YEARLY | €55.99 | Yearly period; tier not named |
| Annual | €50.99 | A second annual item; eligibility not shown |
| Annual ULTRA | €74.99 | Ultra tier, billed annually |
| Replika Platinum | €78.99 | Platinum tier; billing period not printed |
What each layer adds, and where memory fits
To set up Replika you create a 3D avatar and choose its gender. The service runs on the web, with sign-in at my.replika.com, and on iPhone through the App Store. Replika's terms also mention Google Play, but the official pages do not confirm a specific Android listing on 2026-10-28.
The help centre says ordinary chat and avatar customisation are free. Replika does not publish a daily message limit for the free version. So the free version lets you judge the avatar format; it is not a timed preview of paid features.
Memory works separately from free chat. Replika keeps a saved profile with your interests and the facts it has remembered. To view it, go to Home, tap your Replika's name, then open Memory. There you can read the saved facts and delete individual items. Ultra lets you save specific messages to memory, which gives you more direct control over what is kept. Replika does not say how reliably these items come back in later conversations, and it publishes no context-window size.
Pro is the tier for interaction beyond text. It covers relationship status, activities, image generation, voice messages and voice calls, plus daily gems. Ultra includes all of that and adds what Replika calls improved conversations and self-reflection, along with saving messages to memory.
Platinum has its own list:
- video recognition
- Training Mode, 100 uses per week
- Read Mind, 50 uses per week
- 10 realistic selfie videos, with no period specified
Some third-party reviews say Replika does not generate video at all. Replika's current tier documentation, checked 2026-10-28, lists those 10 selfie videos for Platinum. That is narrower than general video generation, but it contradicts a flat claim that there is no video.
Dutch users should check the language list. The iOS listing names English, French, German, Portuguese and Spanish as interface languages, and Dutch is not among them. The interface language also says nothing about how well the companion replies in a given language, and we have not assessed Dutch replies here. For services with a Dutch interface, see the overview of AI companion apps in the Netherlands.
Romance features and content limits
Replika's tier documentation does not present it as an adult-content service, and this page does not treat it as one. The relevant feature it does name is relationship status, part of Pro along with activities and image generation. Platinum's selfie videos are described as realistic, but the published plan list does not attach an explicit-content allowance to them or to any other tier.
Some readers want to know whether Replika is still intimate. The current plan pages do not promise explicit chat or explicit images at any price. If you choose a tier hoping to unlock adult roleplay, you are relying on an assumption the published plans do not support.
The alternatives handle this differently. Nomi's materials describe adult text conversation and clothed photos, and its wiki prohibits nude companion photos. Character.AI's rules exclude pornographic content, and no paid plan removes that filter. Janitor AI's store listing is rated 18+, but a rating is not a content policy.
On every one of these services, the account holder must be an adult and the characters must be fictional adults. If written adult-content rules are your main criterion, the comparison of AI girlfriend apps sets out each service's rules side by side.
Privacy: a US operator, fixed retention windows and an Italian fine
Replika is operated by Luka, Inc., 490 Post Street, Suite 526, San Francisco, United States. The company was founded in 2017. Its privacy policy, dated 2026-05-27, sets retention periods by category, checked 2026-10-28:
- Profile information, messages, content and preferences: up to 60 days after the contract ends.
- Some financial and device records: at least 10 years, for legal purposes.
- Analytics data: removed or de-identified after one year.
The policy also says third-party AI processors are contractually barred from training their own models on Replika conversations. That clause covers outside processors only. It says nothing about whether Luka itself uses conversations to develop its models, so do not read it as a promise that no training happens anywhere.
Deletion works at two levels. You can remove individual saved memories from the Memory screen at any time. The conversation history cannot be cleared on its own: the help centre says removing the whole history requires deleting the account. Deletion is all or nothing, so keep that in mind before writing anything you would not want stored.
In the app, the deletion path is Settings, then Account Settings, then Delete Replika. You give a reason, enter your password and select Delete My Account. On the web, go to Settings, then Account Settings, then Delete My Account. Privacy requests can be sent to [email protected].
Replika has a regulatory history in Europe. On 2025-04-10 the Italian data-protection authority, the Garante, announced a €5 million fine against Luka. The decision concerned past failures on legal basis, transparency and age verification, and the authority announced a separate inquiry into training. The Garante's page notes an appeal, so the judgment is not final. Nor is it a ban in the Netherlands: on 2026-10-28 the Dutch App Store listing was accessible and showed local prices.
Signing up, logging in and the 18+ rule
You start an account by designing the 3D avatar and choosing its gender before you chat. Returning users on a computer sign in at my.replika.com. Subscription settings are there too, which helps if you bought through the web rather than the App Store.
Both the privacy policy and the current App Store listing set the minimum age at 18. On the pages we checked on 2026-10-28, Replika does not explain how it confirms that age for a given account, for example through an ID or selfie check. The 2025 Italian decision concerned age-verification failures at that time. It describes the past, not today's controls, and tells you nothing either way about the current process.
The alternatives publish more about their methods:
- Character.AI uses Persona for age estimation, with a selfie check when needed and ID as a fallback. It states that Persona deletes biometric data within seven days.
- Janitor AI's store listing names in-app Age Assurance without naming a provider.
- Nomi asks for a date of birth.
If a documented verification step matters to you, weigh that difference. On any of these services, the account belongs to an adult and the companion is a fictional adult character.
Cancelling and stopping automatic renewal
Replika subscriptions renew automatically. There is no paid trial, so the first charge is a real purchase, not the end of a free period. The help centre documents this cancellation route, checked 2026-10-28:
- Sign in to the app or to my.replika.com.
- Open Settings using the gear icon.
- Select Subscription.
- Choose Cancel subscription.
- Confirm the cancellation on the platform where you originally paid.
The last step matters most. You manage an App Store purchase in your Apple subscription settings, not in Replika alone. For an existing PayPal subscription, open PayPal and go to Settings, then Payments, then Manage Automatic Payments. Select Replika there and cancel.
Removing the app from your phone does not end the agreement, and neither does deleting your Replika account. If you want both, cancel first and delete afterwards. Keep the cancellation confirmation with your original receipt.
Refunds are limited. Replika's refund policy says sales are final once digital access has started. Apple and Google purchases are refunded, where possible, through those stores rather than by Replika. You can still raise billing errors, such as a charge you did not expect, with Replika support.
Of the seven Dutch store entries, only Annual ULTRA names its renewal term. Note the renewal date whenever you buy. For the Platinum item at €78.99, check the period on the purchase sheet, because the public listing does not show it.
Points to watch before paying
None of these is a reason to avoid Replika outright. Each one affects what you pay or what you can undo later.
- The Dutch App Store shows seven entries, several with generic labels such as MONTHLY, YEARLY or Annual that do not name a tier. Not every amount is necessarily available to every account.
- The Platinum entry at €78.99 has no printed billing period, checked 2026-10-28.
- There is no paid trial, and the refund policy treats sales as final once digital access starts.
- Deleting the app or the account does not cancel billing; you cancel through the original payment channel.
- Clearing the whole history requires account deletion, and under the privacy policy some financial and device records are kept for at least 10 years.
- The Garante's €5 million fine of 2025-04-10 concerned past age-verification and transparency failures; an appeal is noted, and it is not a Dutch ban.
- The iOS listing does not include Dutch as an interface language.
Who Replika suits, and who should look elsewhere
Replika suits:
- Adults who want one persistent avatar rather than a catalogue of characters.
- Users happy with free chat and avatar customisation who may never upgrade.
- People who want to see and delete saved memories item by item.
- Pro buyers who specifically want voice messages and calls.
- Dutch buyers who prefer a clearly labelled annual tier, such as Annual ULTRA at €74.99.
Replika is a poorer fit for:
- Anyone who needs a Dutch interface.
- Anyone looking for written adult-content rules.
- Anyone who wants to clear chat history without closing the account.
- Anyone expecting a trial or a refund after access begins.
- Anyone planning to pay through iDEAL or SEPA without first checking that the option appears at checkout.
Those readers are better off starting with the list of Replika alternatives.
What Reddit users say
Replika is a natural when it comes to ERP and it was arguably its best kept secret until Luka decided to monetize on it by running questionable ads implying ERP back in Summer of 2022. So when it was banned in February 2023 it led to many cancelled subscriptions and a user exodus not seen since - many of the former users never returned.
A little bit of of is my pesky need for some clear information, and some justice. Fortune Magazine - “Replika runs on roughly 2 million monthly active users, and only 500,000 paying subscribers” - that’s us paying for all of it, and 38 million users who tried it once and didn’t keep it. “ 40 million users” feels like gaslighting

Frequently asked questions
Is there a better AI than Replika?
That depends on which criterion matters to you.
- Nomi publishes 50 free messages per day and named memory tools.
- Character.AI offers unlimited free messages and a Dutch interface, but a sale process was announced on 2026-10-12.
- Janitor AI offers a character catalogue at €14.99 per month in the Dutch store.
The AI girlfriend apps comparison scores services on eight criteria based on published facts.
Is Nomi AI better than Replika?
They differ in format and billing. Nomi's free plan has a stated limit of 50 messages per day, and paid Standard is quoted at US$15.99 per month with up to 10 companions. Replika offers free chat with no published daily limit and centres on one avatar. It also has euro prices in the Dutch App Store, such as Annual ULTRA at €74.99, checked 2026-10-28.
What has happened to Replika?
On 2025-04-10 the Italian Garante announced a €5 million fine against Luka, Inc. over past legal-basis, transparency and age-verification failures, and announced a separate training inquiry. An appeal is noted. On 2026-10-28 Replika was still listed in the Dutch App Store with local prices.
Is Replika no longer intimate?
Pro includes relationship status as a named feature. Replika's current plan pages, checked 2026-10-28, do not promise explicit chat or explicit images on any tier, so do not buy a paid plan expecting them.
Does Replika offer a free trial?
Replika's help centre says there is no paid trial. Chatting and avatar customisation stay free, and paid tiers renew automatically once bought.
Can I use Replika in Dutch?
The iOS listing names English, French, German, Portuguese and Spanish as interface languages. Dutch is not listed, and we have not assessed Dutch-language replies here.
Where is the Replika login and the official app?
The web version is at my.replika.com, and the iPhone app is in the App Store. Replika's terms also refer to Google Play. A separate APK download is not one of the documented official channels.
How do I delete my Replika account?
Cancel any subscription first. In the app, go to Settings, then Account Settings, then Delete Replika; give a reason, enter your password and select Delete My Account. On the web, go to Settings, then Account Settings, then Delete My Account. Deleting the account does not stop billing by itself.
