AI girlfriend APK searches: how to avoid fake companion apps

How adults in the Netherlands can tell real companion apps from clones and unofficial APKs: publisher checks, euro listings, billing names and account safety.

Search for an ai girlfriend apk and you get three kinds of result: genuine downloads hosted by a provider, official store listings, and copies that borrow a brand name to collect logins or payments. Telling them apart matters in the Dutch market because several well-known companion services have no native app at all. OurDream's help pages say there is no native app and direct users to a browser web app (checked 2026-10-28). Candy.ai documents an Add to Home Screen route, and the official pages do not show any native store link (checked 2026-10-29). So a file carrying either name needs a better explanation than a familiar icon.

Other services do publish packages, which makes a blanket rule like 'never install an APK' too blunt. SpicyChat's own site offers an Android APK (checked 2026-10-28), and CrushOn.AI's FAQ links to an official APK (checked 2026-10-28). The real test is narrower: did this file or listing come from the provider's own domain, or from an official store page the provider links to?

Money is the second reason to slow down. Dutch App Store listings show prices in euros. Janitor+, for example, is listed on the Dutch iOS store at €14.99 per month or €99 per year (checked 2026-10-28). These are listing prices; we did not test the final checkout or any BTW breakdown. A third-party page selling the same subscription 'unlocked', or at a different euro price, is not offering a Janitor product. Six checks before you install or pay

Start from the provider's own website. Type the address yourself rather than going through a download portal, and use only the install link that site gives you. If it sends you to a store, check that the publisher shown there matches the operator named in the terms. Character.AI's apps are on the App Store and on Google Play under the package identifier ai.character.app, operated by Character Technologies, Inc. (checked 2026-10-28). Talkie's Android listing uses com.weaver.app.prod, while its iPhone app has a different title, Talkie Lab, and the seller SUBSUP (checked 2026-10-28). An app with a similar name but a different publisher or package identifier is a different product, however close the artwork looks.

Find out which format the service actually uses. The three common ones are a native app from a store, a web app saved to the home screen, and an Android package downloaded from the provider. OurDream and Candy.ai document only the web-app route. SpicyChat says its native iOS app was removed and tells iPhone users to save the web app instead; it also notes that PixelChat is a separate SFW companion app (checked 2026-10-28). GirlfriendGPT's download guide pairs a home-screen install with an Android APK, and we found no native store listing (checked 2026-10-28). If a page offers an iPhone app for a service that documents only a web app, that mismatch is your warning.

A missing listing is not a reason to sideload. Nomi's official wiki lists iOS, Android, web and home-screen versions, but the Dutch App Store address returned a 404 through a web reader when we checked on 2026-10-28. That tells you nothing about the web service, and it does not make a third-party file the replacement. HakkoAI's homepage links to an Apple listing, yet repeated direct storefront checks for the Netherlands also returned 404 (checked 2026-10-28). In both cases, go through the provider's own site, not an APK mirror. The same goes for Character.AI, which announced a voluntary Chapter 11 sale process on 2026-10-12 and says the platform and subscriptions continue for now. Rely on the company's own announcements, not on files that claim to preserve an older version.

Treat unlock promises as a separate claim to check. Clone pages often advertise 'premium for free' or unlimited messages, while genuine free allowances are specific and usually small. Candy.ai's free preview is 5 messages in total, 1 generated image and 1 created character, with no daily renewal stated (checked 2026-10-28). Secrets AI allows 20 sent messages per day, plus 100 messages in total for custom characters (checked 2026-10-29). Nomi's wiki gives 50 messages per day on the free plan, and Venice lists 10 text prompts and 15 image prompts per day (both checked 2026-10-28). CrushOn.AI offers unlimited chat on free models along with 100 Pro credits per month and 20 Inspiration Replies per day (checked 2026-10-28). Anything above the published figure comes from whoever built the file, not from the provider.

Look at what the app asks for. Voice messages or calls, which services such as Nomi, Replika and Character.AI describe, can explain microphone access. Chatting with a fictional character does not explain broad device control, accessibility permissions or instructions to switch off phone protections. Screen capture is worth a close look even in genuine software: HakkoAI's privacy policy (dated 2026-06-12) says focused-window capture on PC is on by default and that automatically captured screenshots are kept for three calendar days. If a legitimate product discloses that much, refuse an unknown file that asks for screen recording and has no policy at all. Age checks are another giveaway. Character.AI uses Persona for age assurance, states that a paid plan does not bypass the checks, and offers no paid filter-removal option (checked 2026-10-28). A modified package that claims to skip age verification or content rules is not delivering an official feature.

Make sure payments match the operator. Dutch readers often expect iDEAL, SEPA, PayPal or a credit card, but each provider documents its own methods. OurDream's help says PayPal is not supported (checked 2026-10-28), and SpicyChat's documentation does not confirm iDEAL or SEPA, which depend on its checkout (checked 2026-10-28). A page selling OurDream coins through PayPal therefore contradicts the provider. Documented statement names include EverAI for Candy.ai, NDAI.CC for SpicyChat and S LABS INC for Secrets AI. Check any charge against your receipt, date and amount; if the name is unfamiliar and no purchase matches, take it to your bank.

Store and web subscriptions are billed separately, and an unofficial build adds a payment route nobody can cancel for you. Promptchan's support pages say legacy Apple or Google subscriptions must be cancelled in the store where they started and do not carry current website benefits (checked 2026-10-28). Uninstalling the app does not stop billing at Nomi or Replika. Replika's policy (dated 2026-05-27) keeps profile and message data for up to 60 days after the contract ends and some financial records for at least 10 years. OurDream deletion takes 24 to 48 hours and automatically cancels an active subscription, and any remaining coins are lost. Nastia requires you to cancel the membership before the account can be deleted. Quick checklist before installing

Go through these points before you enter a password, a payment method or personal details. If any one of them fails, stop.

• You reached the download or store link from the provider's own website, typed in yourself.
• The store publisher matches the operator in the terms, for example Character Technologies, Inc. for Character.AI or SUBSUP for Talkie.
• The format matches the documentation: OurDream and Candy.ai document a web app, and SpicyChat offers an Android APK and an iPhone home-screen web app.
• Free allowances match the provider's figures, such as 5 messages in total at Candy.ai or 20 messages per day at Secrets AI.
• Permissions fit the feature you use, and you refuse requests to disable phone protections.
• The app does not claim to skip age checks or content rules.
• The euro price matches the official listing, such as Janitor+ at €14.99 per month on the Dutch iOS listing, and the payment method is one the provider documents.
• You know the expected statement name, for example EverAI, NDAI.CC or S LABS INC.
• You know where to cancel (store or website) and that deleting the app does not cancel billing.

If something went wrong: rights and contacts

If you paid through a copy not run by the provider, contact your bank or card issuer first and report the transaction with its date and amount. Before doing anything else, change your password on the genuine service and on any other site where you used the same one.

For genuine purchases, EU withdrawal rights may apply. Candy.ai's terms (section 10.4.3, checked 2026-10-29) give EU and UK users 14 days for an initial purchase, counted from the purchase confirmation email, with a prorated deduction for services already used. Renewals are not covered, and notice can be sent to [email protected]. Secrets AI's refund policy also describes a 14-day EU and UK withdrawal period, with used services treated proportionally (checked 2026-10-28). At Secrets AI and Promptchan, crypto payments are generally non-refundable.

For data questions, the documented privacy contacts are [email protected] for Candy.ai, [email protected] for Nomi, [email protected] for Replika, [email protected] for OurDream and [email protected] for Secrets AI. If a provider does not answer a GDPR request, you can complain to the national data protection authority, which in the Netherlands is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens. European regulators do act in this sector. Italy's Garante fined Luka, the company behind Replika, €5 million on 2025-04-10 over legal basis, transparency and age verification, and fined Character.AI €158,000 on 2026-07-03. Both decisions can be appealed, and neither amounts to a ban in the Netherlands.
